Profile
I’ve had an experience similar to that of Mr. Kikuo Ibe, the creator often called the father of G-SHOCK.
When Mr. Ibe was a young professional, he accidentally dropped the mechanical watch his father had given him — and it shattered.
From that incident, he dreamed of creating an unbreakable watch.
That dream became G-SHOCK.
Here’s my story.
When I became an adult, my parents gave me a self-winding mechanical watch with red accents.
I loved it — but I dropped it twice, and it stopped working both times.
After that, I wanted a watch that would never break.
I didn’t know much about G-SHOCK back then,
but while looking at watches in a store, I saw a phrase that caught my eye:
“Unbreakable watch — G-SHOCK.”
Among the models, the square DW-5600E immediately drew me in.
Its functional beauty reminded me of the thin Casio I had as a child —
probably what we now call a Cheap Casio.
It brought back fond memories, yet felt rugged and strong.
That was the beginning of my square G-SHOCK life — and it continues today.
