[5600series and 5610series]Introduction to the square casio digital watch G-SHOCK [Difference in Bezel]

I like the square G-SHOCK more than any other watch.

Conclusion: The 5600 and 5610 have different bezels and handling button’s positions. Belts are common.
The compatibility table of the bezel is classified by representative models.

Compatibility table for G-SHOCK bezels
  • At first glance, the square G-SHOCK bezels all look the same size. But there are differences and the division of “5600 series and 5610 series” is often used.
  • The square G-SHOCK GW-M5610 model of “tough solar + radio clock” is famous and sold. And it is commonly known as the “5610 series bezel” representative.
  • Established because the names of “5600 series and 5610 series” are easy to understand.
  • However, CASIO does not intend to do so, and often gives the model number 5610 to slightly unusual variations and there is a slight deviation from the 5610 series” that we will discuss this time.

This page is about ”Differences between ‘5600’ and ‘5610’”(difference in bezel).

The Square G-SHOCK bezel type

There are 5600 series and 5610 series for dividing roughly the bezel .

In the case of the bezel, it is divided into “5600 series and 5610 series” instead of the “5000 series and 5600 series” that were divided by design.

It may get confused what it means. But it’s okay. By the end of this article, you will be able to understand the difference between the two.

The 5600 series representative model DW-5600E (left) and the 5610 series representative model GW-M5610 (right) that I own.

The correct model name on the right is GW-M5600

At first glance, it feels the same. Let’s see the difference between the two.

“5600 series” is a model compatible with DW-5600

Even though it is a “5600 series”, the bezel size is originally close to the original G-SHOCK DW-5000C.

So, to be correct,“If you trace the origin, the 5000 series is more correct than the 5600 series.”

However, the DW-5600E has a step on the bezel which is the standard for the current square G-SHOCK .

First G-SHOCK DW-5000C Do you understand that there is no step on the bezel?
This is the DW-5600E-1V that is still on sale today, and there is a step on the bezel!
Square G-SHOCK First of all

It became the completed form of the popular version of G-SHOCK, and this bezel size came to be called “5600 series”.

“5610 series” is a model compatible with GW-M5610U

On the other hand, the GW-M5610U is the representative model of the 5610 series in the current model. This model was updated in 2021 and became the current model name.

When it was first released as a G-SHOCK of “radio clock (multiband 5 can be received at 5 locations in the world) + tough solar”, the model name was “GW-M5600″.

When the radio-controlled watch multiband 5 became multiband 6 during the small renewal, the model name was changed to “GW-M5610” in the sense of a slight change. This is the beginning of the 5610 series.

So, if we go back to the original, it will be “Isn’t the name 5600 series instead of 5610 series?” Because it is easy to understand that the period of the name 5610 is long and the bezel is different,This bezel is now called “5610 series”.

Originally (multiband 5) name: GW-M5600 (released in 2008)

Multiband 6 changed name: GW-M5610 (released in 2012)

Detailed update name: GW-M5610U (released in 2021)

At first glance, the GW-M5610U bezel looks the same as the DW-5600E introduced earlier, but there are the following differences.

feature is,

  • A little smaller and stylish than the square G-SHOCK so far
  • Easy to press buttons
  • Not compatible with existing bezels

This is the characteristic of “5610 series”.

It’s just my imagination, but I think Casio didn’t expect it to be used in this way, and chose the “5610” with a relatively light heart.
In fact, although it is a 5600 series bezel, the model number is often 5610 when it is a special model that is a little different from others!
The meaning of 5610 in this case is different from “Bezel of 5610” in this page. Confusing.

The name of the 5610 series bezel is only said “only among G-SHOCK fans” and “commonly known on the Internet”, it is not an official Casio.

Comparison of 5600 series and 5610 series

DW-5600E I own

If you look at Casio’s G-SHOCK official website, you can see the difference in size between the two.

The case size of DW-5600E is (length x width x thickness) 48.9 x 42.8 x 13.4 mm

The case size of GW-M5610U is (length x width x thickness) 46.7 x 43.2 x 12.7 mm

Obviously diferrent! Let’s look at both again.

When you look closely and you can see from the size

  • The up and down buttons are farther from the 5610 series than the 5600 series.
  • The height of the bezel is a little smaller for the 5610 series
  • The thickness of the 5610 series is also a little thinner.

The 5600 series is closer to the size of the original 5000 series.

The distance between A and B in the photo below is different. B is farther away.

Personaly I think the 5610 series is better.

  • Easy to press the button
  • As it is thin, it fits comfortably in your hand.

They are not compatible. They cannot be attached even if the bezel is removed. And the buttonholes do not fit and cannot be pressed.

The bezel and button width are different, but the belt is the same.

The belt is the same. The above is DW-5600 series and the bottom is GW-5610 series.

The back cover is also different.

The 5610 is more angular, and I personally feel that it is hard to sweat.
The shape of the back cover often differs depending on the model. Be sure to check.

5600 series on the left, 5610 series on the right

Now, if you want a normal one as your first one or if you want a square G-SHOCK with a practical radio solar system for the time being. I think it will be very good if you buy the GW-M5610U.

Even if it is a special model number such as a limited edition , you can see the difference by looking at the size on Casio’s G-SHOCK official website.

The case size of the 5600 series” is (length x width x thickness) 48.9 x 42.8 x 13.4 mm.

The case size of the “5610 series” is (length x width x thickness) 46.7 x 43.2 x 12.7 mm.

It should be. You can also distinguish by this number .

Some models cannot be replaced

As mentioned in the table above, there are exception models .

  • The original G-SHOCK DW-5000C is close to the size of the 5600 series. But the size is slightly different and it is not compatible.
The first G-SHOCK DW-5000C CASIO offers a restore service on rare occasions.

In terms of how to divide 5600 series and 5610 series, it can be said to be “5600 series”.

  • The bezel of the GMW-B5000 with full metal G-SHOCK also has been known  recently as being produced . It has a different size the reason why the buttons have become larger and the screw holes have been changed to make them full metal .
(I don’t think that I would bother to replace full metal with something else.)

Dreams come true "FULL METAL G-SHOCK"

In terms of size, this can also be called “5600 series” in terms of how to divide it into 5600 series and 5610 series.

Consider about these models are dedicated and cannot be replaced and enjoyed.

*That’s a very complicated story so far. But there is also a way to divide the square G-SHOCK into “5000 series or 5600 series” instead of “5600 series or 5610 series” introduced this time.

The above DW-5000C and GMW-B5000D are

  • If you divide “5600 series or 5610 series”, the bezel size will be “5600 series”,
  • In terms of how to divide it into “5000 series or 5600 series”, it is “5000 series” because that is made in Japan, the dial design and there is no step on the bezel.

It seems that “We do not understand!”
Don’t worry.

In this article, I wrote in detail about “How to distinguish between 5000 series and 5600 series”.
Introduction to square G-SHOCK [Difference between 5000 series and 5600 series]

Summary

Did you see the difference?

Summary,

  • The dial design was divided into 5000 series / 5600 series.
  • The bezel can be divided into 5600 series / 5610 series.
  • When both are lined up, they are completely different in size and cannot be used interchangeably.
  • Common bands are used

I think you can now identify the square G-SHOCK bezel.

It is the most prominent part of a wristwatch. So if you replace it, the image will change considerably.

Recently, a service is called “My G-SHOCK”(CASIO web) that allows you to choose freely the bezel and band has started.
“My G-SHOCK” has a model number of “5610”. But the bezel type is 5600 series. It’s complicated.

Finding your favorite G-SHOCK combination what it is one of the pleasures.

Have a good square G-SHOCK life!
