This site has explored the appeal of G-SHOCK in many articles over the years.
This page brings together our articles on the G-SHOCK 2100 series.
The popular 5000/5600 series also has an article index here.
What Is the 2100 Series?
Broadly speaking, these are the octagonal G-SHOCK watches shown in this photo.

With its analog display, readability, and simplicity, this is the most popular G-SHOCK series.

The 2100 series is popular, so it offers
• All-black models
• Bluetooth-equipped models
• Solar-powered, radio-controlled models
• Full-metal models
—a full range of choices, just like the 5000/5600 series.
Is the 2100 Series Related to the Square G-SHOCK?
Is the 2100 series actually related to the square G-SHOCK?—you may be wondering.
In fact, CASIO has officially said that it drew inspiration from the original G-SHOCK.
As I explained in detail in my earlier GA-2100 article, the popular 2100 series is very much a sibling of the square G-SHOCK—the 5000 and 5600 families.
Take a look at CASIO's page dedicated to the GA-2100 (here).
The 5000 and 2100 series share the same strap design, and the bezel design carries over as well.

An octagonal bezel is what CASIO calls it.
Now that you mention it, it really is an octagon. Maybe I should rename this site from A Site for Square G-SHOCK Fans to A Site for Octagonal G-SHOCK Fans!
Next, the ridged sections around the bezel are another shared detail.

Those ridged sections of the bezel are another feature they share.
In other words, the GA-2100 is a sibling of the square G-SHOCK is what CASIO itself is telling us.

Since CASIO says it based the design on the square G-SHOCK, the GA-2100 counts as a square G-SHOCK in my book.
What Else Should You Know About G-SHOCK?
You may want to understand what G-SHOCK model numbers mean.

Model-number conventions can sometimes differ slightly between older and newer watches, but they generally apply to the 2100 series as well.
Once you understand this much, you are a well-informed G-SHOCK fan!
