[G-SHOCK CASIO digital watchs] How to mute a Casio watch without operation sound [modify]

Casio digital watches make a beeping sound every time you press a button . It’s cute , but this time I’m going to write about how to mute this.

  • How to silence the Casio watch operation sound “beep beep sound”
  • There are two ways to buy a G-SHOCK with a mute function or to modify it so that it does not ring.
  • However, if you modify it, the alarm sound will not sound.
  • It’s a remodel, so do it at your own risk

Casio watches make a sound every time you press a button

Casio watches make a sound every time you press a button.

It’s easy to understand, but for ceremonial occasions or for those who have to work in a quiet environment. You may want to mute the sound, as it wil lbe  embarrassing if you accidentally press it .

Fortunately, G-SHOCK has a model with a mute function .

Basic models such as the DW-5600E do not have a mute function, but high-performance models such as the GW-M5610U and GMW-B5000D do.

A mark where “slanted line on an eighth note” is muted.

If you look at the corresponding model on the Casio website , the model listed as ” operation sound ON/OFF switching function “ in the function column has this mute function.

This function is plain but quite important. When a model that didn’t make a sound when a button was pressed was released, I admired it. There will be many people.

However, the DW-5600E and Cheap Casio (Casio Collection Standard) models do not have this function. What should I do.

The tips

The operation sound ON/OFF method is different for each model . Don’t worry if you don’t know how to set it up. I think there is a 4-digit number enclosed in a square on the back cover of the G-SHOCKYou can see the manual by entering this number on
the Casio manual page .

Actually, you can mute the sound by modifying it (at your own risk)

In fact, even Casio watches that do not have a mute function can be silenced relatively easily.

However, since the back cover will be opened, there is a possibility that the warranty will be voided. Please do so at your own risk .

Also, since the structure is different for each model, there is no guarantee that the modification will be successful.

Also, if you do this, not only the operation sound, but also the start/stop sound of the stopwatch will not sound and the alarm will not sound. So the actual alarm/time signal function will be lost. Please only those who do not mind.

Step 1 Open the back cover

The driver should be “plus number 0”.

First, open the back cover. However, there is a caveat at this time .

Common Casio watch back cover

There are four screws to remove. But at this time, “a very small spring may bounce and fly away” . Be careful with this.

The mechanism of Casio’s watch’s beep and alarm sounds is

  • There is a small spring between the watch body and the back cover
  • A piezoelectric element is attached to the back cover .
  • When pressure is applied to this element through a small spring, a sound is produced.

That’s how it works.

This “small spring between the main body and the back cover” may fly off,

  • gently open
  • It is done on a wide and well-arranged work desk so that you can easily see it even if you fly.

that’s all.

If you don’t mind if the sound doesn’t sound again, it’s okay if it disappears, but let’s work carefully.)

I successfully opened the back cover.

The light gray color on the back cover is the piezoelectric element.

Step 2 Locate the small spring

You can easily see the piezoelectric element on the back cover, but do you know where the spring is?

It’s hard to understand at first, but here it is!

Let’s look at it from another angle. Here it is!

Previously when I worked on Casio watches in the same way

  • The spring flew away and I had a hard time finding it

I have a memory, but I wonder if the model I worked on this time has measures taken.

  • The spring is attached to the main body. And measures have been taken so that it cannot be removed.

was that.

(However, I think that there are still some models that fly away. Let’s work carefully.)

Step 3 Apply masking tape (or remove spring)

You can also use paper instead of masking tape, but cellophane tape deteriorates and does not last long. .

Find the part of the back cover where the spring hits earlier . Then put masking tape on that spot .

In the case of this model, I pasted a yellow masking tape on this part .

As I wrote earlier , if you don’t want the sound to ring again and you don’t want to use the alarm anymore , you can remove the spring, but it seems that this model cannot be removed, so this is the case. I made it a method.

State of work The location differs depending on the model

Step 4 Replace the back cover

Then just put the back cover back on. Be careful.

Point 1 to be careful

Traditionally, it is said that if you tighten the screws diagonally. They will be evenly tightened.

Example of how to tighten I think it’s okay if you don’t care too much here.

If it’s a small watch like this, you may not have to worry about it too much.

( Because the main body is made of resin, if you tighten it too tightly. It may break or crack, which may cause it to break or lose its waterproof function . Tighten the screws moderately. Tighten them by hand, not by electric power.)

Point 2 to watch out for

Between the main body and the back panel is a thin black circular rubber called an “O-ring”. .

Tighten it properly along the groove . If it is stuck in a strange place, the waterproof function will be lost.

This is a common mistake when changing batteries. If you are worried about replacing the battery, you can get it done at a shop for a fee. But this time, “I want to mute the sound, I put masking tape on it” is not a repair. But a modification, so I don’t think you can do it.
Even if the clock itself does not return or is broken, it will be your own responsibility.
Only those who really want to do this modification to mute should do it.

Most high-performance models with “G” in the model name have a mute function, so it would be a good idea to consider that.
