Square G-SHOCK watches, commonly called squares.
The 5000, 5600, 5610, 5700, and full-metal families…
Although they look similar, there are actually major differences in parts compatibility.
Based on actual replacement and testing, this article organizes
the compatibility of bezels, bands, screws, and crystals in a single quick-reference table.
Note: The findings are based on the author's hands-on testing, but modifications and purchases are undertaken at your own risk.

| 5600 family | DW-5600UE / GW-B5600 | Standard models; the largest current selection |
| 5610 family | GW-M5610U / GW-M5610UBC | Mainstream solar models with radio-controlled timekeeping BC model numbers come with a lightweight, comfortable three-fold clasp band |
| 5700 family | DW-5700 / DWE-5657 | Round-bezel derivative, with exceptions |
| Full-metal family | GMW-B5000 and related models | Completely different case construction, so not interchangeable |

🔹Quick Compatibility Groups: Bezels and Bands
| Families | Bezel compatibility | Band compatibility | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5000 ↔ 5600 | ◎ | ◎ | Generally interchangeable. Almost identical in appearance. |
| 5600 ↔ 5610 | × | ◎ | Bezel button positions differ. Bands are shared. |
| 5600 ↔ 5700 | × | △ | Bezel shapes differ. Band lug shapes are similar, but caution is needed. |
| 5600 ↔ Full Metal | × | × | Different construction and lug widths. |
| 5700 ↔ DWE-5657 | ◎ Exception | ◎ | An official combination allowing swaps. |
→ In other words, 5000 and 5600 are essentially related. 5610 allows band swaps only.
Remember that the 5700 and full-metal families are separate groups.

🔹Compatibility by Part
Bezels: Exterior Covers
| Combination | Result | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| DW-5600E ↔ GW-M5610U | × | Button positions differ slightly; the bezel may sit proud even if fitted. |
| DW-5600E ↔ GW-5000U | ◎ | Shared construction. The same size even with a screw-back case. |
| GW-M5610U ↔ GW-B5600 | × | Not interchangeable even though both have solar power and radio-controlled timekeeping. |
| 5600 Family ↔ GMW-B5000 | × | Not compatible because of the metal-case construction. |
| 5700 Family ↔ DWE-5657 | ◎ | Officially interchangeable; 2 bezels included. |
Note: I own both the GW-M5610 and GW-B5600 and tested bezel swaps on the actual watches.
Because small differences in the internal tabs and button-hole positions cause gaps or lifting, I concluded that they are not interchangeable.

✅ Key Points
- U series models are generally the same size as their predecessors. .
- The round 5700 is generally not interchangeable with squares. The exception is the DWE-5657, officially supporting square-to-round swaps.
- Full-metal models use a different internal design. .

With the same shape and a striking black appearance, the same bezel as the GW-M5610UBC is also available.
Note: I only realized different colors were available while preparing this article.
Both bezels and bands seem to be readily available for the GW-M5610 series.

👆 The GW-M5610 bezel is on the left; the GW-M5610BC bezel is on the right. Can you see that the one on the right is slightly darker?

In addition to the above, aftermarket metal modification kits that are not official Casio products are popular for improving appearance. However, their retention strength in a drop impact can be lower than that of genuine parts.
For everyday use or when prioritizing shock resistance, genuine parts are recommended.
Bands and Straps
The 5600/5610/5000 have approximately 16mm lug widths, and swapping resin and composite bands is straightforward because they share the pin construction.
However, full-metal GMW-B5000 models have different lug and case designs and are not interchangeable.
| Combination | Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 5000 Family ↔ 5600 Family | ◎ | Genuine parts are interchangeable; both use 16mm lugs. |
| 5600 Family ↔ 5610 Family | ◎ | Fully interchangeable, including solar models with radio-controlled timekeeping. |
| 5610 Family ↔ GW-B5600BC Composite Band | ◎ | The composite band can also be purchased separately and fitted. |
| 5600 Family ↔ 5700 Family | △ | Some interference occurs. Modification is needed on certain models. |
| 5600 Family ↔ Full Metal | × | Not possible because the lug structures differ. |

My band recommendation is the composite band used on the GW-M5610UBC.

✅ Recommended Swaps
- Composite Band (GW-M5610UBC): fit it to a lightweight modelNote: Available separately
- Fine Resin Band (GW-B5600BC): add a more premium feelNote: You need to purchase a GW-B5600BC and swap its band
- Resin Band (DW-5600E): make it lighter and softerNote: Available separately
I could not find a fine resin band sold separately online.

For that reason, I purchased a GW-B5600BC and swapped the band.
